About Me

I am a recent journalism and English graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz, where I served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The New Paltz Oracle.

My passion for journalism started early. At 13, I wrote an editorial for my local publication about my personal experience with Lyme disease. Since then, my commitment to the craft has only grown.

Throughout college, I developed my reporting, writing, and photography skills through coursework and hands-on experience at The New Paltz Oracle, where I worked my way up from reporter and photographer to editor-in-chief.

As editor-in-chief, I expanded the paper's local news coverage, launched a newsletter, and organized a local government debate.

Prior to graduation, I interned at the Legislative Gazette, a publication covering the people, politics, and policy of New York State from the capitol in Albany. There, I served as a staff writer and photographer.

I currently am an intern reporter at The Overlook, a non-profit newsroom that covers the Catskills.

My work across these publications has reached tens of thousands of readers and has been republished by outlets with hundreds of thousands of followers.

Rather than work a traditional job during college, I spent my time building real-world experience as a freelance reporter, contributing to the Kingston Wire, the Shawangunk Journal, the Daily Catch, and the Wallkill Valley Times. Through these assignments I covered a wide range of subjects, from local government and policy to arts and culture.

I have also taken deliberate steps to sharpen my editorial skills. I hold a certificate of completion from the AP Stylebook Workshop and have completed a copy editing certification through the Poynter Institute and ACES. I also maintain a personal blog where I write about topics outside my regular beats, using it as a space for experimentation and continued growth.

I am a dedicated, detail-oriented journalist with a deep commitment to local news and community storytelling. If you'd like to connect, reach me at kylebredberg@gmail.com.
